MOBI
MOBI files are a type of eBook file format developed for use on mobile devices, especially eReaders. Initially created by a company called Mobipocket, MOBI files became popular after Amazon acquired Mobipocket in 2005 and adapted the format for its Kindle devices (although Kindle now primarily uses the AZW and KFX formats, which are based on MOBI). MOBI files are compatible with many eReaders, but they’re particularly associated with the Amazon Kindle ecosystem.
