MOBI is a legacy e-book format originally developed by Mobipocket and later acquired by Amazon for its early Kindle devices. It is based on the Open eBook standard and supports basic formatting, bookmarking, and indexing. While modern Kindles and publishing platforms have moved to AZW3 and KFX, MOBI files are still widely used for backward compatibility with older devices. Sample MOBI files are used to test e-book conversion tools and legacy device support. Developers use them to verify that text reflows correctly on low-resolution screens and that metadata (author, title, cover art) is properly extracted. They are also useful for testing libraries that manage personal e-book collections.
