SWF (Small Web Format) is a legacy file format developed by Adobe for Flash-based multimedia, vector graphics, and interactive games. It was the dominant format for web animation for over a decade. Although Flash is no longer supported by modern browsers, SWF files are still used in specific desktop environments and for archival gaming purposes. Sample SWF files are used to test Flash emulators (like Ruffle) and legacy content viewers. Developers use them to verify that vector graphics and ActionScript logic are preserved when running in non-native environments.
